The Amazon region has favorable
characteristics to cultivate tropical fruits.
Because of the hot, humid climate and
ideal soil, cupuaçu cultivation today has a
significant economic and social importance
for the Amazon. In 2005, the production of
cupuaçu in the state reached 20 million fruits,
a 16% increase compared to the previous year
according to data from the IDAM – Instituto
de Desenvolvimento Agropecuário do
Amazonas (Amazonas Agricultural/Livestock
Development Institute).
In the Amazon there are more than 8,000
cupuaçu producers that create about 20,000
direct and indirect jobs. From the number of
jobs created, this is an excellent income option
for rural producers in the region. The fruit is
cultivated in 70% of the municipalities in the
state, but the largest production comes from
Itacoatiara, Presidente Figueiredo, Autazes,
Silves and Humanitá.
In Brazil production is concentrated in the
majority of the states in the northern region.
Amazonas, Pará, Acre, Rondônia and Roraima
are the largest producers of the fruit in the
region. The state of Bahia also has a large
production of the fruit. In 2005, cupuaçu
production in Brazil reached almost 200
million fruits. The average number of cupuaçu
producers in Brazil reaches 170,000 people and
creates about 220,000 direct and indirect jobs.

maioria dos estados da região Norte. Amazo-
nas, Pará, Acre, Rondônia e Roraima são os
maiores produtores da fruta no país. A Bahia
também tem uma larga produção da fruta. Em
2005, a produção de cupuaçu no Brasil chegou
perto da casa de 200 milhões de frutas. A média
de produtores de cupuaçu no Brasil chega a
170 mil pessoas, gerando, aproximadamente,
220 mil empregos diretos e indiretos.
